1. Oakwood Emergency Codes are changing! In an effort to reduce the risk to patients, enhance patient safety and improve quality of patient care, Oakwood Healthcare Inc. (OHI) will transition to a standardized and uniform approach to Emergency Codes.  The Uniform Hospital Emergency Codes go into effect on Sunday, June 1, 2014.  Please click here for code information.

Instructions to Access Orientation Information
Please review the clinical placement definitions below and click on the title that describes your Oakwood clinical assignment. A page listing all of the orientation documents you need for your clinical placement will appear. You may review the orientation information from the website or print and review the paper version of the information. All information, including forms, can be printed and copied by you as needed for your clinical experience.  

STUDENT NURSING ORIENTATION FOLDERS

  • Traditional Nursing Clinical Placements
    Placements where a faculty member and a student group are assigned to an area. Faculty remains on site with the students throughout the clinical experience.

  • Transition into Clinical Practice (Immersion) Placements
    Placements where a faculty member is a coordinator for clinical placement for a senior nurse. The student is precepted by an Oakwood staff nurse. Faculty do not remain on site with the student throughout the clinical experience.

  • Nursing Leadership/Management Clinical Placements
    Placements where a faculty member is a coordinator for clinical placement for a senior nurse. The student is mentored by an Oakwood nurse manager. Faculty do not remain on site with the student throughout the clinical experience.
  • Advanced Practice Nursing Student Clinical Placements
    Placements where a faculty member is a coordinator for clinical placement for an NP or MSN candidate. The student is precepted by an Oakwood staff member. Faculty do not remain on site with the student throughout the clinical experience.
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice Student Clinical Placements
    Placements where a faculty member is a coordinator for clinical placement for a DNP candidate. The student is mentored by an Oakwood staff member. Faculty do not remain on site with the student throughout the clinical experience.
  • Schools NOT Participating In ACE
    This information is for all nursing schools not participating in the ACE PASS system. Complete the contents of this section IN ADDITION TO your appropriate clinical information above.

Orientation Instructions
Please review the documents for your clinical placement and ensure you are knowledgeable of this orientation information. If you are faculty, it is your responsibility to ensure your students are also knowledgeable of this information. As faculty, please be sure to contact the manager of your assigned unit/department for your clinical placement as soon as possible in order to arrange a date and time for your unit/department orientation. If you are a student who will not have on site faculty here with you during clinicals, then it is your responsibility to determine who your Oakwood preceptor/mentor will be and contact that person for unit/department orientation.

You must turn in all required paperwork to your clinical site coordinator prior to the start of your clinical experience. Your clinical experience cannot begin until all required paperwork is received by Oakwood.

Thank an Oakwood Nurse
Many of you have contacted us asking how you can thank nurses and nurse managers on the unit you were assigned to for clinical. If an Oakwood nurse been particularly helpful to you, kind to you, supportive of your efforts to become a nurse and you would like to send a special thank you to them, please 
submit this form with your comments. Even if you don’t know his or her name, we’ll do our best to take your note to that nurse and we’ll make sure to inform his or her manager and peers. Thank you for taking time to recognize their positive efforts. It means a lot to these nurses and nurse managers to hear your positive feedback.

Thank an Oakwood Employee
Many of you have contacted us asking how you can thank employees where you have been assigned for clinical. If an Oakwood employee has been particularly helpful to you, kind to you, supportive of your efforts as a student or faculty person and you would like to recognize them with a special thank you, please ask your site coordinator for a BRAVO coupon to give to that person. BRAVOs are a special way to thank an Oakwood employee and are a part of Oakwood's employee recognition program. Thank you for taking time to recognize the positive efforts of these employees.
